EXPERIENCES HOODIE - UNSATISFIED WITH BEING BY AHRAUN
“THE PIECE CONSISTS OF TWO SIDES. THE LEFT PART JUXTAPOSES A YOUNG BOY AND AN OLDER MAN, BOTH RIDING THE SAME TRAIN. BEING THE DELUSIONAL PERSON THAT I AM, I IMAGINED THEM AS THE SAME PERSON IN A DIFFERENT TIME FRAME. THE PORTION ON THE RIGHT SHOWS TWO PEOPLE APPROACHING EACH OTHER, THEN TWO PEOPLE TOGETHER, AND THEN TWO PEOPLE SEPARATING FROM EACH OTHER. FOR THIS SIDE AS WELL, I PICTURED THE SUBJECTS IN EACH PHOTO AS THE SAME PEOPLE IN DIFFERENT STAGES OF THEIR LIVES. I WANTED TO SHOW PEOPLE HAVING EXPERIENCES BY THEMSELVES AND WITH OTHERS.
IT GOES WITHOUT SAYING THAT EACH INDIVIDUAL’S VIEW OF THEMSELVES AND THE WORLD AROUND THEM IS SHAPED BY SUCH EXPERIENCES THROUGHOUT THEIR LIVES. YOU COULD BE LIVELY AS A TEEN AND GROW UP TO BE SOMEONE WHO DOESN’T SPEAK MUCH TO OTHERS. YOU COULD ALSO PLACE A LOT OF IMPORTANCE ON SOMEONE’S PRESENCE IN YOUR LIFE, ONLY TO END UP BEING COMPLETE STRANGERS SOMEWHERE DOWN THE LINE.
THE WEIGHT OF WHAT HAPPENS IN BETWEEN THOSE TWO PHASES IS, QUITE HONESTLY, VERY UNSETTLING. I DON’T PLACE TOO MUCH OF MY THOUGHTS ON GROWING UP OR GROWING APART FROM OTHERS, BECAUSE IT’S A GIVEN THAT THOSE EVENTS WILL OCCUR WITH THE PASSAGE OF TIME. I’M MORE CONCERNED WITH HOW I GET THERE AND WHAT KIND OF EXPERIENCES WILL BE THE CATALYST TO THOSE EVENTS.”
